I have an eMusic.com account and was surprised today to see among the top selling African music downloads D.O. Misiani's "Club Oasis" album as the #4 African release. #5 was Safarini, an album my organization did for Smithsonian Folkways quite a few years ago. #11 was the Makassy "Legends of East Africa (Agwaya)" album. #25 Daudi Kabaka's "Best of.." #33 Kenya Dance Mania
It's surprising that this stuff which has been around a long time would appear among the best sellers but let's consider it good news whenever East African music is recognized.
Emusic.com has unveiled a new web design that barely functions; at the moment, it's frankly terrible. But they do have a lot of interesting stuff from Africa these days.

Douglas!
First and foremost, we appreciate your presence here at Bengamusic. Your breadth of knowledge in this genre in music is invaluable and I personally, look forward to learning from your immeasurable understanding of Benga.
Regarding your post, I am thrilled but not surprised that Misiani ranks that high. That fellow was a genius. His brand of Benga will never be duplicated.

Your breadth of knowledge in this genre in music is invaluable and I personally, look forward to learning from your immeasurable understanding of Benga. Thanks for your welcome. I don't know that I'm such an authority on benga; more a fan. However, now that I'm known by the folks at Stern's and AI Records, I'm hoping I can continue to put together more benga albums from some of the great bands of the 70s. I'd like to do some groups like Kawere Boys and Migori. We'll see what develops.
